Members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) representing 11 out of 16 regions of the People’s National Convention (PNC) have tendered their resignations to establish a new political known as the People’s National Party (PNP).

This decision comes from a disagreement with a recent High Court ruling dated April 8, which upheld the suspension of the General Secretary of the PNC, Janet Nabla, over allegations of gross misconduct, insubordination, and incompetence.

The court’s ruling also reinstated David Apasera as the leader of the PNC, effectively ending a three-year leadership crisis within the party, as announced by the PNC in a statement on April 8, 2024.

However, during a press briefing held in Accra on Wednesday, April 17, Sulemana Seidu, the Interim General Secretary of the newly formed PNP, explained the faction’s rationale behind their decision to break away from the PNC. Seidu asserted that the PNP could not operate under the leadership of an individual lacking integrity and credibility, referring to the reinstated leader, David Apasera.

He said;

“It is with great sadness that we announce our decision to leave the People’s National Convention (PNC) and form our party, the People’s National Party (PNP). The decision to depart from the PNC comes as a result of the fact that we disagree with the ruling of the high court of 8th April 2024 for reinstating individuals whom we believe were rightfully dismissed from leadership positions due to financial malfeasance and misconduct.

“We the members of the National Executive Committee, representing 11 out of 16 regions, disagree with the ruling. We cannot in good conscience allow individuals lacking integrity and credibility to govern our party, especially when the legacy of our founder, Dr. Hilla Limann, is one of sacrifice without blemish”.
