Despite the loss, which saw Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof leave the game at half-time due to illness and precautionary reasons respectively, Ten Hag remained positive about his defensive options.

Ten Hag acknowledged the club’s interest in Matthijs de Ligt and Jarrd Branthwaite, but he suggested he would be content with his current squad if no new signings are made.
Matthijs de Ligt’s potential move from Bayern Munich would require £42 million, while Everton has set a £70 million price tag for Branthwaite, rejecting Manchester United’s £35 million plus £8 million in add-ons offer.
“We have good options at center-back,” Ten Hag said. “Harry Maguire was also a precaution, and Licha Martinez is coming back in good form. We’ll see what happens with transfers, but I’m confident in our defense.”
