Shakespeare has died at the age of 60, his family announced. Craig Shakespeare, who enjoyed a 19-year playing career, is best known for his managerial stint with Leicester City.

A family statement read: “It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Craig Shakespeare, ‘Shakey.’ Craig passed away peacefully this morning at his home surrounded by his family.”
The statement emphasized his role as a loving husband, father, son, brother, and uncle, asking for privacy during this difficult time.

Craig Shakespeare was undergoing treatment for cancer since October 2023. His coaching career included roles at West Brom, Hull, Everton, Watford, Aston Villa, and Norwich.
Craig Shakespeare also served as England’s assistant manager in 2016.
Notably, Shakespeare was Claudio Ranieri’s assistant during Leicester’s 2015/16 Premier League-winning campaign and later managed the team, achieving victories in the Champions League.
Jamie Vardy expressed his sorrow on social media: “Just gutted. RIP Shakey.” The footballing community, including Norwich and Grimsby Town, mourns his loss.
