Emefiele made this plea during his court appearance at the FCT High Court in Abuja, where he faced four charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC alleges that Emefiele violated the law and harmed the public interest by disobeying legal directives while implementing the naira swap policy under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Additionally, they accuse him of improperly approving the withdrawal of N124.8 billion from the Federation’s Consolidated Revenue Fund.
According to reports, the EFCC claims that Emefiele authorized the printing of N684,590,000 at the exchange rate of N18.96 billion. They assert that his actions were in violation of the law and were intended to cause harm to the public.
Emefiele’s plea of not guilty marks the beginning of what promises to be a closely watched legal process as the Nigerian judiciary examines the allegations against one of its former top financial officials.
