The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted claims circulating on social media about the release of a list of former governors under investigation for corruption.

Reports surfaced on Saturday, May 4, suggesting that the EFCC had disclosed a list of 58 ex-governors accused of embezzling N2.187 trillion.

However, the anti-graft agency has clarified through a statement on its social media platforms today, May 5, that the list is not authentic and should be dismissed.

According to the EFCC, the purported list is a fabrication not originating from the Commission.

They emphasized that they have neither published such a list nor engaged in discussions about investigating former governors with any media outlet.

The agency labeled the report as false and malicious, indicating that its motives are unknown but undoubtedly misleading.

The EFCC urges the public to disregard the circulated list as it contains false information.

Furthermore, they advise the media to verify facts directly with the Commission regarding ongoing investigations to prevent the dissemination of inaccurate reports.

This statement serves as a reminder to exercise caution when sharing unverified information, especially concerning sensitive matters such as corruption allegations against public officials.
