Mullins is currently facing a departmental trial for breaching rules by posting the police record of de Blasio’s daughter after she was detained during the George Floyd demonstrations last year.

After FBI investigators raided his home and the union’s offices Tuesday morning, Ed Mullin resigned. According to a letter given to union members by the Sergeants Benevolent Association’s board, President Ed Mullins decided to retire after the board requested his resignation.

“The resignation of Ed Mullins is long overdue. You know, Ed Mullins has been the most hateful local figure in the public life of New York City. He has a long record of abusing his power, engaging in misconduct, embracing conspiracy theories, trafficking in hate and sexism, and racism and homophobia”, Congressman Ritchie Torres revealed.
Mullins was an outspoken union leader who had harsh comments for political politicians like Mayor Bill de Blasio and police commissioners such as Bill Bratton, James O’Neill, and Dermot Shea over the years.
