In a troubling development in the Eastern Region, a 100 kVA transformer belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has been reported stolen from Bunso in the Fanteakwa South District.

The theft, which occurred near the Bunso Police barrier adjacent to the police station, has disrupted power supply in the area.
The transformer, estimated to be worth GHC71,000, was located on the premises of the CSIR-Plant Genetic Resources Research Institute, close to essential services like the Bunso Police Station and Fire Service command.
Despite its proximity to security facilities, the perpetrators managed to abscond with the equipment unnoticed.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident, and as a result of the theft, residents connected to the transformer are experiencing electricity disruptions.
ECG management in the region has assured the public that efforts are underway to replace the stolen transformer promptly.
