T-Mobile US and Sprint Corporation declared their plan to merge on April 29, 2018. Attorneys general from several states filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York to try and stop the merger.

Despite the fact that the U.S. Justice Department had initially approved it on July 26, 2019, claiming that it would raise consumer prices by around $4.5 billion annually.

On February 11, 2020, District Judge Victor Marrero made his decision in favor of the merger public. He claimed that Sprint “does not have a sustainable long-term competitive strategy” to remain a viable competitor” and that the merger “is not likely to substantially lessen competition” as the suing [states] had claimed it would.

Does Ryan Reynolds own T-Mobile?

According to Bloomberg, Reynolds owns around 25% of the company. Using the T-Mobile network, Mint Mobile offers affordable cell phone plans beginning at a monthly plan price of $15. In 2019, Reynolds acquired a stake in Mint Mobile.

He has acted in TV commercials for Mint Mobile and extensively promoted the business to his 21 million Twitter and 47 million Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ: META) Instagram followers as the company’s main salesperson.

Who bought T-Mobile out?

T-Mobile completed the acquisition of Sprint, another significant US telecom provider, in 2020. The U.S. Department of Justice allowed this merger after T-Mobile made a number of concessions, including selling some assets to Dish Network in order to launch a rival wireless carrier to the combined T-Mobile/Sprint company.
