At the age of sixteen, MacPherson was noticed while taking part in the Kurnell triathlon in southern Sydney. In 2009, MacPherson participated in and completed the Hawaiian Ironman in 10 hours and 32 minutes. In 2013 and 2014, Macpherson qualified for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship two times.
