Did Trevor Francis play for QPR? Did Trevor Francis play for Plymouth Argyle? – Trevor John Francis, an English footballer best known as Britain’s first £1 million player has died. Francis was born on 19 April 1954 and died on 24 July 2023 of a heart attack at the age of 69 at his home near Marbella, Spain. Throughout his illustrious career, Francis played as a forward for clubs in England, the United States, Italy, Scotland, and Australia.

Born in Plymouth, Francis joined Birmingham as a schoolboy and was the Blues’ then-youngest debutant in 1970 aged 16 – a record only beaten by current England and Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham in August 2019.

Francis went on to score 119 goals in 280 league appearances before making history by joining Clough’s Nottingham Forest.

Following Forest’s two European Cup victories, he joined Manchester City before moving on to Italian clubs Sampdoria and Atalanta.

He spent a season with Rangers in Scotland before joining QPR, where he also became player-manager.

Francis joined Queens Park Rangers as a player in March 1988 and took over as player-manager in November 1988 when Jim Smith left for Newcastle United. After a year in command, he was dismissed as manager by Don Howe in November 1989, with the club in danger of relegation.

When he was 14 years, he was sent on an FA course at Bisham Abbey.

He left City’s Public Secondary School for Boys at the age of 15. There were speculations at the time that Plymouth Argyle were interested in signing him, but the deal never materialized.

He eventually signed for Birmingham City and the signing-on fee paid for his mother’s first washing machine.

Francis became Britain’s first £1 million player in 1979, following his transfer from Birmingham City to Nottingham Forest.
