The jackpot was projected to be worth $685 million, but ticket sales exceeded expectations, resulting in a payout that was much greater than predicted. As of Monday night, no one has won the jackpot in the previous 40 draws.
The winner will now have to decide whether to receive the reward as a 30-year annuity or a one-time lump sum payment of $495 million.
The prize pool for the drawing on Wednesday, Oct. 6 will be worth $20 million, with a $14.2 million cash option.
