David Warburton was born in the Berkshire town of Reading. He earned a diploma in music composition. At King’s College London, he earned an M.Mus.
As a Ralph Vaughan Williams Trust Scholar, he then pursued an M.Phil. and PhD at King’s College, London. Warburton then taught music for five years at an inner-city mixed community school, Hurlingham and Chelsea Secondary School, as a classroom and peripatetic teacher.

David Warburton has been representing the Somerton and Frome constituency as a Member of Parliament (MP) since May 2015.
As an MP, Warburton has worked towards supporting local businesses, promoting economic growth, and addressing issues affecting the rural communities he represents.
David Warburton was stripped of his whip and suspended from the Conservative Party on April 2, 2022. In June 2023, Warburton announced he was resigning as a Member of Parliament, triggering a by-election.
