While in university he worked at a radio station on campus which was run by students. He later co-founded another radio station on campus while he was still a student.

After college Letterman found a job as a radio talk show host, weatherman, and tv anchor. He often made humorous while reporting the weather. A couple of years later he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in comedy. He was fortunate enough to join a team of writers that wrote comedy acts for prominent actor and comedian Jimmie Walker. He moved on to NBC where he was given his own morning show. The show did so well, it won two Emmys. However, it was canceled soon after due to a drop in ratings. NBC kept Letterman and gave him another show, this time a night show titled Late Night with David Letterman. In 1992, Letterman left NBC to host his own show on CBS. Again it was a night show but this time titled Late Show with David Letterman. Letterman gained massive popularity as a talk show host and hosted the Oscars in 1995.
