However, in July 2024, Daniel Muir and his wife faced legal challenges after their son was reported missing and later found at their home. Muir faces charges of domestic battery and obstruction of justice, while Kristin Muir faces a charge of obstruction of justice. Their son, Bryson, is now under the care of the Cass County Department of Child Services.

Despite going undrafted in the 2007 NFL draft, Muir signed with the Green Bay Packers. He was the only undrafted rookie to make the Packers’ roster out of training camp, playing in three games and recording eight tackles during the 2007 season. However, he was waived before the 2008 season.
Muir was claimed by the Indianapolis Colts after being waived by the Packers. He played a significant role for the Colts and was re-signed to a one-year, $1.7 million contract in April 2010.
In July 2011, Muir signed a one-year, $1.85 million contract with the St. Louis Rams but was released in September 2011.
