Damso is a Belgian Congolese rapper, singer and songwriter who rose to prominence following the release of his hit song “Poseidon”.

Damso Biography

Damso whose real name is William Kalubi was born on 10th of May, 1992 in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Not much is known about his family, however, Damso’s mother is known as Rose Marthe and his father was reportedly a medical doctor in Kinshasa. He also has a younger brother by the name, Mehdi Rais.

Following an armed conflict in Congo, Damso alongside his family moved to Belgium when he was just 9 years old. They eventually settled in Matonge, a largely Congolese neighbourhood in Ixelles, Brussels.

Damso shot to prominence in 2015 following the release of his hit song Poseidon, which appears on Booba‘s OKLM mixtape. He was a member of the rap collective known as 92i and later got signed to Universal.

  • Batterie faible (2016):  This was his first studio album and was released via Booba’s 92i label on July 8, 2016. The project has been certified platinum with more than 100,000 sales in France.

  • Ipséité (2017): Damso’s second album was released on April 28, 2017, and got certified 3x platinum in less than six months. Ipséité is now certified Diamond with Damso over 900,000 cumulative album sales in France.
  • Lithopédion (2018): This was Damso’s third and it was certified Platinum within a week of its release. The project is now certified 3x Platinum.
  • QALF (2020): QALF is Damso’s latest project and is an acronym for Qui Aime Like Follow. The album which was released under his independent label, Trente-quatre Centimes, was certified gold in Belgium almost three months after its release.
