From 2007 to 2015, American attorney Craig Marcus Watkins served as Dallas County’s district attorney. When he was elected in 2006, he became Texas’s first elected African-American district attorney.

Watkins started his legal career as an intern in the Dallas County Public Defender’s and City Attorney’s offices before entering private practice.
Watkins belonged to three legal associations: the Dallas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, and the National Trial Lawyers Association.
Watkins had three children with Tanya, his wife. At the age of 56, he passed away at his Dallas home on December 12, 2023.
