Isha Isatu Sesay is a British journalist and News presenter who worked as an anchor for CNN in the United States from 2005 to 2018. She is a Sierra Leonean descent born on 6 January 1976 in London, England.
Isha was born to Temme’s parents from Sierra Leone. She returned with them when she was only seven years old to their homeland. Isha spent most of her life in Sierra Leone because they were Muslims.
Isha’s mother, Dr. Kadi Sesay was the former lecturer at the Fourah Bay College. Dr. Sesay was appointed as an advisor to the government of Valentine Strasser in 1992. Isha’s father worked as a legal advisor to the Sierra Leone Produce Marketing Board before he died in 1988.
Isha studied in a private college school in Freetown, Fourah Bay, and left for the United Kingdom at the age of 16 in 1992 for further studies and college. She was then accepted into Trinity College, Cambridge, where she read English while working as a waitress at a bar. She discovered her passion as a journalist and decided to become a television Journalist.
After Isha’s graduation from college, she began her television career as a researcher for the BBC talk show Kilroy, initially as an unpaid intern. Her hard work and determination got her to be hired and she became a full-time paid employee before moving to Glasgow in 1998 to work for BBC Scotland. She then got her first-time on-camera job as a TV announcer on BBC choice.
She proceeds to present a variety of programs for the BBC, CNN, and TWI, before joining Sky in March 2002. At the sky, Isha spent more than three years as an anchor on Good Morning Sports Fans for Sky Sports News. She had the opportunity to interview former boxer Michael Watson, Ellen MacArthur, and traveling with members of the Arsenal football team following an exhibition match at Reebok Stadium in support of Nwankwo Kanu’s heart foundation.
She later moved to ITN, where she worked as an anchor of the ITV Morning News program and was also the newsreader on the breakfast program GMTV.
Isha Sesay became a news anchor and correspondent at CNN International, based at Network’s global headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia in November 2005. She was selected to go to Nigeria in 2007 to cover the presidential election of Nigeria where she conducted one-on-one interviews with Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Yar’Adua. She was in South Africa in the same year to cover the launch of the Global Elders.
Isha announced on 2 August 2018 that she was leaving CNN after 13 years of service. She stated that United States President Donald Trump is the reason for her decision. She also announced that she will be writing a book about the abduction of Chikbok girls, and she plans to continue to engage in African issues.
