Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese Named as ‘Sportswoman of the Year’ at the 2024 BET Awards

Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky has clinched the prestigious BET Sportswoman of the Year award.

The competition for this accolade included notable athletes like basketball star A’ja Wilson, tennis prodigy Coco Gauff, rising rap star and basketball player Flau’jae Johnson, high school sensation JuJu Watkins, tennis champion Naomi Osaka, sprinting powerhouse Sha’Carri Richardson, and gymnastics legend Simone Biles.

Despite the formidable lineup, Reese emerged as the top choice.

The BET award recognizes the “best and most successful female athlete of the previous year,” a description fitting Reese perfectly.

Drafted seventh overall in the 2024 WNBA draft, she has dazzled in her rookie season with an average of 13.5 points and 11.1 rebounds per game, earning widespread admiration.

Reese’s journey to the WNBA was marked by stellar performance at LSU, where she averaged 18.6 points and 13.4 rebounds per game in her final season.

Additionally, Reese celebrated this honor by setting a WNBA record for the most consecutive double-doubles in a rookie season, surpassing Candace Parker with ten straight. At 22, Reese has not only made history but also won the hearts of fans everywhere.
