Celine Dion Admits to Concealing Her Illness for 17 Years Before Making It Public

Canadian singer Celine Dion has revealed that she kept her battle with Stiff Person Syndrome a secret for 17 years before finally sharing it with the public. In a heartfelt interview with Hoda Kotb on the Today Show this week, Dion opened up about the challenges she faced while privately dealing with the debilitating illness.

The 56-year-old music icon disclosed that she began experiencing symptoms of Stiff Person Syndrome as far back as 2008. Despite her health struggles, Dion managed to support her late husband, Rene Angelil, through his cancer battle, while also raising their children.

Dion first publicly announced her diagnosis in 2022, surprising many of her fans who were unaware of the personal hardships she had been enduring. Reflecting on her journey, she emphasized the importance of self-advocacy and perseverance.

“Be proud of yourself and be your biggest cheerleader. Make sure you celebrate your achievements to build confidence and stay motivated,” Dion shared.
