Endometriosis is a condition where the tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus grows outside of it, such as on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or other pelvic organs. This tissue can cause pain, inflammation, and scarring, and may also interfere with fertility.

Can endometriosis affect your breasts?

In endometriosis, the tissue that would normally line the uterus grows outside of it, resulting in discomfort, inflammation, and occasionally the development of scar tissue or adhesions. Although endometriosis often manifests as pelvic symptoms, it can also have an impact on other body areas, including the breasts.

Changes in hormone levels brought on by endometriosis might result in breast soreness, swelling, and discomfort. These signs and symptoms are comparable to those felt throughout the menstrual cycle and could be more noticeable in people with endometriosis. In some cases, endometrial tissue can also develop into the breast tissue itself, resulting in cysts or lumps.

Endometriosis, however, can alter the vaginal environment, which may make it more challenging for embryos to implant and develop or for eggs to become fertilized. Cysts or adhesions that develop on the ovaries as a result of endometriosis may hinder ovulation and the release of eggs.
