CAF took a subtle jab at UEFA on social media after videos showed rainwater leaking through the roofs of Signal Iduna Park during a European Championship game between Turkey and Georgia.

The match, held at Borussia Dortmund’s home ground, saw Turkey win 3-1.

Heavy rain before the match caused flooding outside the stadium, with police assisting fans. Inside, videos showed water pouring into the stands and stewards sweeping water off the sidelines.

Despite this, the main pitch remained unaffected, allowing the game to proceed smoothly. Turkey, led by Arda Guler, secured all three points in their opening Euros match.

CAF’s social media team seized the moment to highlight the successful AFCON tournament they hosted in Ivory Coast four months earlier.

On X (formerly Twitter), CAF posted photos of the impressive AFCON stadiums with the caption: “Hosting big tournaments the correct way.”

CAF also responded humorously to a separate viral video in which a journalist mistakenly referred to Belgium’s Amadou Onana as Andre Onana. CAF’s post read: “There’s only one André Onana.”

The 2023 AFCON was hosted by Ivory Coast, who emerged victorious by defeating Nigeria in the final.
