Bronny James, the eldest son of NBA superstar LeBron James, did not hear his name called during the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft on Wednesday, 26 June 2024, despite some speculation surrounding his potential selection.

Ranked as the No. 54 prospect by Yahoo Sports’ Krysten Peek entering the draft, Bronny’s absence from the first round was not unexpected, given his position in most talent evaluations.

While there was speculation that a team might draft him to leverage his father’s influence, it did not materialize in the first 30 picks.

As Thursday’s second round approaches, Bronny James remains one of the most prominent names available. The Los Angeles Lakers, where LeBron James currently plays, stand out as a potential landing spot at No. 55 overall.

However, LeBron’s agent, Rich Paul, has emphasized that the two are not a package deal, despite ongoing speculation linking Bronny to the Lakers.

Throughout the predraft process, Bronny worked out exclusively for the Lakers and the Phoenix Suns, who do not have a pick in the second round due to a tampering violation.

Nonetheless, teams like the Toronto Raptors, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Dallas Mavericks have shown interest in the 6-foot-2 combo guard, according to Peek.

Paul has also indicated that Bronny should be selected only by teams offering a guaranteed contract, a stance that could limit his options given his developmental status.

Bronny’s brief college career at USC, where he averaged 4.8 points per game before being sidelined by cardiac arrest, adds another layer of consideration for potential teams.

While many expect the Lakers to draft Bronny James in the second round, the possibility remains open for another team to make a move and potentially change the draft night dynamics.

The next steps for Bronny James in the NBA Draft will unfold as teams finalize their selections in the second round, with anticipation high regarding where the highly anticipated prospect will begin his professional career.
