Adam Peaty, a British swimmer and three-time Olympic gold medallist, has called for stricter measures against Chinese swimmers he suspects of cheating.

Peaty criticized the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), urging it to take more decisive action. His comments follow China’s victory in the men’s 4×100 metres medley relay, where they narrowly defeated the United States and France.

Peaty, whose team finished fourth, expressed frustration with what he perceives as a flawed doping control system. He argued that athletes who cheat undermine the integrity of the sport and should be banned.

Peaty suggested that even if athletes are caught cheating multiple times, they should be removed from the sport entirely. He stressed that true victory is only meaningful when achieved fairly.

Peaty had kept quiet during the Games to stay focused but decided to speak out now, criticizing the current state of anti-doping efforts. He described cheating as “fraud” and called for tougher regulations to restore faith in the system.

This comes after it was revealed that two members of the Chinese relay team, Qin Haiyang and Sun Jiajun, had previously tested positive for banned substances but were allowed to compete in Paris.

Chinese swimmers, including Qin and Zhang Yufei, have defended their records, denying any wrongdoing and dismissing criticisms as attempts to undermine their achievements.

Reactions to Peaty’s remarks have sparked a heated debate on Chinese social media, with some accusing Western critics of bias and hypocrisy.
