A booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine helps improve the protection you have from your first 2 doses of the vaccine. The booster provides longer-term protection against serious symptomatic effects from COVID-19 and the rise of the latest Omicron strain.

In April 2021, the Department of Health and Social Care announced that it had procured an extra 60 million doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, alongside the Oxford/AstraZeneca and Moderna vaccines, to use as part of the booster campaign. These boosters will be the same as the vaccines currently being administered as first and second doses.

People aged 30 and over in England will be able to book a Covid-19 booster jab from Monday, December 13, 2021, ahead of its availability in the UK by the end of December 2021 and early 2022.

Some people under 40 reported successfully booking their booster jab appointment online over the weekend, as the exercise extends. Booking for a jab appointment can also be done by calling 119.
