Bob Newhart, the legendary comedian known for his deadpan delivery and unique style, has died at the age of 94.

Newhart passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024, in Los Angeles after a series of short illnesses, according to his longtime publicist Jerry Digney.
Born George Robert Newhart on September 5, 1929, in Oak Park, Illinois, Newhart initially worked as an accountant and advertising copywriter before rising to fame in comedy.
His 1960 album, The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart, became a sensation, topping Billboard’s album chart for 14 weeks and earning multiple Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

Newhart’s influence extended over five decades, highlighted by his successful television sitcoms, The Bob Newhart Show (1972-78) and Newhart (1982-90). He was also known for his roles in films such as Catch-22, Cold Turkey, and Elf.
In 1993, Newhart was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame and received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor from the Kennedy Center in 2002. His work is preserved in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.
Newhart is survived by his four children—Jennifer, Courtney, Timothy, and Robert—and several grandchildren. His wife of 60 years, Virginia “Ginnie” Newhart, passed away last year.
