The police in Dambai have arrested the owner of a boat involved in a tragic accident on the Oti River on Wednesday. The incident, which occurred under windy conditions, resulted in the drowning of three people, while seven others were rescued.

Emmanuel Atali, the Assembly Member for the Dambai Lakeside Electoral Area, provided an update to Citi News on the situation. He confirmed the arrest of the boat owner and mentioned that investigations into the matter are ongoing.

“We are still looking for the dead body, but the police have arrested the boat operator who was driving the boat when the incident happened,” Atali stated. “As I am speaking now, people are still looking for the dead body. They have to let him [the boat operator] write his statement because he is the one who knows where the accident happened.”
The search party continued to patrol the area to retrieve the bodies of the deceased. Meanwhile, those who were rescued from the capsized boat are reportedly recovering well. “All the people that were rescued are now recovering. All of them are in good condition,” Atali added.
