During a recent episode of Backstage Banter, hosted by Isi Ijewere in Canada, BNXN discussed his frustrations with the exorbitant costs and questionable safety practices associated with boat rides in the city.
When asked about the cost of a boat ride from Lekki to Ilase, BNXN responded with a laugh before addressing what he perceives as systemic scams.
“This is the perfect place for me to say that these people are scamming us,” he said. “They will charge us 350k for a 21-seater boat, and that boat can never fit 21 people unless you want to risk your life. They often quote 340k to 400k for a boat, which might be oversized or otherwise.”

BNXN also criticized the safety standards of some boats, highlighting a disparity between the costly and budget options. “I know some people who pay as little as 200 or 500 naira for an Ikorodu speedboat without life jackets. It’s alarming that boats are often poorly equipped for safety,” he added.
In the same interview, BNXN praised Burna Boy’s evolution and personal demeanor, noting, “I discovered Burna in 2013/14 and thought his music was something extraordinary. Over time, he proved himself and became a global icon. I admire him not just for his music but for his authentic character, which contrasts with public perceptions. He’s a legend with a unique presence.”
