Changpeng Zhao, the billionaire behind Binance, a big crypto exchange, got a four-month jail term for money crime.

Last year, he pleaded guilty to the offense. The sentence, shorter than expected, came after a tough legal fight. Prosecutors wanted three years, but his team argued for no jail time.
This shows the US is cracking down on illegal stuff in crypto. Sam Bankman-Fried, who ran FTX, got a 25-year jail term earlier for fraud. Both were top players in the trillion-dollar crypto game.

Binance, led by Zhao, ruled the sector, but faced US heat over alleged legal stuff. Zhao, aka CZ, often brushed off worries about Binance, calling them “FUD” (fake rumors).
The mess got worse when Zhao’s actions led to FTX’s downfall and Bankman-Fried’s arrest. Zhao later faced his own legal mess.
Binance had to pay $4.3 billion for not reporting dodgy transactions. Zhao admitted to not having a good anti-money-laundering setup and stepped down as CEO, paying a $50 million fine.
This case shows the risks in the wild world of crypto, where big names can fall fast.
