William Foster Hayes III was an American actor and recording artist. His song “The Ballad of Davy Crockett” peaked at number one on the Billboard charts in the spring of 1955.

On June 27, 2017, while in the crowd, Hayes was featured in an impromptu interview on a web special for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon; he had previously been on the Johnny Carson-hosted edition of the show.
Hayes graduated from DePauw University with concentrations in music and English and joined Lambda Chi Alpha.
