Tributes have been pouring in from several people on social media, especially on Twitter.

Love his water-level compositions in Jaws. They leave the viewer treading water, right along with the characters. Rest in Peace,” Garrett Stiger wrote.

JAWS was one of the films that made me realize that I loved movies more than life. I probably didn’t realize it when I was 10 years old, that feeling was in large part thanks to Bill Butler. RIP to a titan,” Duncan Gooding tweeted.

Butler helped lens JAWS and CUCKOO’S NEST in the same year and lived to be 101. That’s one hell of a career. RIP,” Marshall Flores.
