Benjamin Gregory Hertzberg, professionally known as Benji Gregory, was born on May 26, 1978, in Los Angeles, California. Coming from a family steeped in the entertainment industry, Gregory was destined for the limelight. His father, uncle, and sister were all actors, and his grandmother served as his agent. Gregory later attended the Academy of Art University, nurturing his artistic talents from an early age.

Acting Career

Benji Gregory became a household name as a child actor, famously portraying Brian Tanner on the NBC sitcom “ALF,” which aired from 1986 to 1990. His role on “ALF” endeared him to audiences and solidified his place in television history.

In addition to his work on “ALF,” Gregory had a prolific career with appearances in numerous television shows. He voiced characters in “Fantastic Max” (1988–1990) and “Pound Puppies” (1986–1987), and appeared in popular series such as “Murphy Brown” (1988), “Fantasy Island” (1978), “The A-Team” (1984), “T.J. Hooker” (1984), “Amazing Stories” (1985), “The Twilight Zone” (1985), and the TV movie “Mr. Boogedy” (1986). Gregory also had a role in the feature film “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” (1986).

Beyond these roles, Gregory appeared as himself in the PSA series “The More You Know,” the children’s game show “I’m Telling!,” and the “Salute to the 50 States” episodes of the game show “Fun House.” He also featured in a children’s episode of “The Dating Game.”

Gregory’s versatile acting skills shone in his recurring role on “Punky Brewster,” where he played an orphan named Dash. His voice acting credits include voicing Edgar the Mole in the animated feature “Once Upon a Forest” (1993), which marked his final acting role. He was set to co-star in a “Punky Brewster” spin-off called “Fenster Hall,” but the pilot was never picked up for regular production.

Post-Acting Career

After leaving the acting industry, Benji Gregory found a new calling in the U.S. Navy. He enlisted in 2003, following his graduation from school, and served as an aerographer’s mate. During his naval career, he was assigned to the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70). Gregory’s dedication and service were commendable, and he received an honorable medical discharge in 2005.
