Richard Lugner, the Austrian billionaire and renowned entrepreneur, has died at the age of 91. He passed away on August 12 2024, at his villa in Vienna.

Lugner was widely recognized for his lavish hosting of celebrities at the Vienna Opera Ball, including Kim Kardashian, Jane Fonda, Pamela Anderson, and Goldie Hawn.
Most recently, he attended the ball in February with Priscilla Presley. He had been dealing with multiple health issues and had undergone surgery in recent months.

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer led tributes, describing Lugner as a “successful entrepreneur and a dazzling personality,” and an “Austrian original” who “never lost his way.”

The Lugner City shopping center in Vienna, which he built in 1990, also honored him with a heartfelt message on Facebook, reflecting on the profound grief and the cherished memories of their time together.
Lugner’s death came shortly after his sixth marriage to Simone Reiländer, which took place on June 1 2024 at Vienna City Hall.
He had previously been married to Christine Gmeiner, Cornelia Laufersweiler, Susanne Dietrich, Christina Lugner, and Cathy Schmitz. He leaves behind four children: Jacqueline, Nadine, Alexander, and Andreas.
