Lately, Atiku has been traveling across the country to meet with former leaders and influential political figures. In an unexpected move, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar visited the most recent past president, Muhammadu Buhari.

After leaving office, Buhari went back to his hometown of Daura, passing leadership to President Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023.

Throughout their careers, Atiku and Buhari have often been political rivals. They competed against each other in the APC’s presidential primary in 2014, which Buhari won and then went on to win the general election in 2015.
Atiku ran for president on the PDP’s ticket in 2019 against Buhari but didn’t win. He tried again in 2023 but lost to Tinubu in a controversial election. He challenged the results all the way to the Supreme Court without success.

He has hinted that he might run for president again in 2027 by saying he’s not done with politics yet. The reason for Atiku’s visit on Saturday is not public knowledge, but he and Buhari were seen walking together towards Atiku’s car.
A video on social media showed Atiku and Buhari talking while their associates watched closely.
This visit happened shortly after Atiku paid respects during Sallah to former Military President Ibrahim Babangida and former Military Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar in Minna, the capital of Niger State.
