Asamoah Gyan Foresees Global Stardom for Black Satellites’ Jerry Afriyie

Former Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan has praised young talent Jerry Afriyie, foreseeing a bright future for him in the sport.

Afriyie’s standout performance in the 2023 African Games, particularly his crucial goal in the final, earned Ghana’s U-20 team gold.

Gyan, impressed by Afriyie’s skills, emphasized his technical abilities, work ethic, and impressive ball-striking. Despite some inexperience in his off-the-ball movement, Gyan believes Afriyie has great potential.

Afriyie’s remarkable showing hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Gyan highlighting his three goals in the tournament as proof of his talent. Gyan suggests that with proper training and guidance, Afriyie can achieve greatness.

Gyan’s endorsement is significant for the 17-year-old as he aims to build on his success at the African Games. Afriyie’s journey will be closely watched as he strives to fulfill his potential on the football stage, with the support of Ghana’s top goal scorer behind him.

Gyan holds the record for the most goals scored in the history of the Ghana national team, netting a total of 51 goals throughout his career.

He proudly represented Ghana in the FIFA World Cups of 2006, 2010, and 2014, where he showcased his talent by scoring 6 goals, making him the leading African goal scorer in World Cup history.

Additionally, Gyan participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics and featured in seven Africa Cup of Nations tournaments from 2008 to 2019. During these competitions, Ghana achieved notable successes, including a third-place finish in 2008 and being runners-up in 2010 and 2015.

In a celebratory event held at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra, Gyan unveiled his memoir, “LeGYANdry.”

On June 20, 2023, he officially announced his retirement from professional football, marking the end of an illustrious career filled with remarkable achievements and unforgettable moments on the field.
