Asa Hutchinson, a former governor of Arkansas, declared on Sunday that he will seek the Republican Party’s presidential candidacy. Hutchinson is presenting himself as a rival to Donald Trump, who was just charged by a grand jury in New York.

Hutchinson says Trump should withdraw from the campaign because the position of the president is more significant than any one person.

He feels that he is the finest choice for the future of America because people want leaders who will appeal to both the best and not only the worst aspects of the country.

After Trump was charged with a crime, Hutchinson is the only Republican to declare his candidacy. His election will demonstrate how willing the GOP is to back those who oppose Trump.

According to Hutchinson, it’s critical for people to have a choice in candidates rather than automatically electing someone who is fixated on the past. Hutchinson has been critical of Trump and stated that the allegations against him are a diversion, in contrast to many other Republicans.

In the upcoming weeks, Hutchinson will campaign in Iowa, Indiana, and Kentucky before formally announcing his candidacy on April 26 in Bentonville, his hometown.

Other Republicans including Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, Ron DeSantis, Tim Scott, Mike Pompeo, and Mike Pence are anticipated to challenge him fiercely. Hutchinson has been involved in politics since the 1980s and held the office of governor of Arkansas for eight years.

He served as the director of the Drug Enforcement Administration under President George W. Bush and as an undersecretary of the Department of Homeland Security. He was one of the House managers bringing the impeachment case against President Bill Clinton.
