“Thanks to the kind help of neighbors who provided medical support, we were able to be with her, say goodbye, and show our love and gratitude. This is a gift we will always cherish,” her family said.

Anne was born on August 27, 1938, in Oxford, Mississippi. She started acting as a child when she moved to Hollywood at the age of 4. By the time she was 7, she was already appearing on popular radio shows like The Phil Harris and Alice Faye Show and One Man’s Family.

Her most famous role came at the age of 15 when she played Susan Waverly in White Christmas. Susan was the granddaughter of Major General Thomas Waverly, played by Dean Jagger. The movie, filled with Irving Berlin songs and starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen, remains a holiday favorite.

“Just this past December, during the holidays, Annie watched White Christmas with her family on the movie’s 70th anniversary,” her obituary mentioned.

Besides her acting career, Whitfield was also known for her travels around the world and her activism. She continued working until her last days. In 2005, she moved to Burien, Washington, to run a bed and breakfast. On her 85th birthday, she went hiking in the Italian Alps with a close friend.

“Annie’s biggest wish was for her family and future generations to live in a world filled with love, acceptance, natural beauty, and the end of political and social injustices,” her obituary stated. “She was a force in life, and we hope her positive energy reaches those who knew her.”

Anne Whitfield is survived by her three children and seven grandchildren. A celebration of her life is planned for March 22 at The Cove Community Club in Normandy Park, Washington.
