Club Career

Miguel Ángel Borja Hernández, began his professional career with Deportivo Cali in 2011. He soon moved to Cucuta Deportivo, where he had limited playing time, leading to a transfer to Categoría Primera B side Cortuluá. At Cortuluá, Borja showcased his talent as a fast and complete goalscorer, gaining recognition for his strength and scoring abilities.

In 2013, despite interest from Independiente Medellin, Borja joined La Equidad, scoring 4 goals in just 2 games before moving to Italian club Livorno on loan.

In the summer of 2013, Borja joined Serie A club Livorno on loan, with an option to buy. He debuted on October 20, 2013, but after seven appearances and no goals, Livorno was relegated. He was then loaned to Argentine club Olimpo, scoring three goals in sixteen matches.

Borja returned to Colombia with a loan to Independiente Santa Fe in 2015, where he scored ten goals in thirty-three matches and helped the team win the 2015 Copa Sudamericana. In 2016, he moved to Cortuluá, where he had a record-breaking Apertura tournament, scoring nineteen goals in twenty-one matches.

On June 8, 2016, Borja joined Atlético Nacional. He made an immediate impact by scoring twice in both legs of the Copa Libertadores semi-finals against São Paulo and netted the decisive goal in the final against Independiente del Valle. His performances earned him a place in the best XI of the year.

In February 2017, Borja transferred to Brazilian side Palmeiras for a reported fee of $10.5 million, making him the fourth most expensive transfer in Brazilian football history.

On December 28, 2019, Borja signed a one-year loan deal with Atlético Junior, scoring a crucial penalty in the 2020 Superliga Colombiana. In August 2021, he moved to Grêmio on loan, donning the number 9 shirt.

On July 12, 2022, Borja signed with Argentine giants River Plate, with his contract running until December 2025. His time at River Plate has seen him become a key player for the team.
