Alicia Vikander’s mother was a stage actress. She passed away in 2022. Her father Svante Vikander is a psychiatrist. Her parents are from small villages in Sweden’s north and south, respectively.

They divorced when Vikander was two months old and she was raised primarily by her mother. On her father’s side, she has five half-siblings.

Alicia Vikander has stated that growing up, she had the best of both worlds, being an only child to her mother and being surrounded by a large family when she visited her father’s house every other week. She is one-quarter Finnish; her maternal great-aunt fled to Sweden during World War II.

Alicia Vikander began her career as a child actor in minor stage productions at the Gothenburg Opera House. She began her acting career in Swedish short films and television series, and her breakthrough role was in the drama series Andra Avenyn (2008–2010).

She is the recipient of various accolades, including an Academy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Critics’ Choice Movie Award, as well as received nominations for two Golden Globe Awards and three British Academy Film Awards.
