Khelif triumphed over Anna Luca Hamori of Hungary with a commanding 5:0 victory in the quarterfinals of the women’s 66-kilogram division.

With this win, Khelif secures at least a bronze medal, adding a significant achievement to her challenging journey at these Games.

The 25-year-old boxer faced intense scrutiny and controversy leading up to her Olympic success. Claims from the International Boxing Association (IBA), which has been banned from the Olympics since 2019, alleged that Khelif had failed an unspecified eligibility test last year due to elevated levels of testosterone.

This controversy overshadowed her preparations for the Paris Games. Despite these challenges, Khelif won her opening bout on Thursday when her opponent, Angela Carini of Italy, abandoned the fight after just 46 seconds.

Khelif’s second victory in Paris appeared to be a moment of emotional release for the Algerian athlete. Following her win, she celebrated by waving to her supporters, kneeling in the ring, and pounding the canvas with her palm, her smile quickly giving way to tears.

As Khelif embraced her coaches and wept with her fans, the scene in the arena was one of collective triumph and relief. Back in Algeria, her family and supporters watched with immense pride.

Her mother, Irene, expressed her joy and admiration on Algerian television, saying, “I am happy for my daughter. She is courageous despite racist and sexist attacks aimed at breaking her.”
