President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has given executive approval for the establishment of the University of Local Government and Development in Akomadan, Ashanti Region.

In a letter dated July 1, 2024, signed by the Secretary to the President, Ambassador Nana Asante Bediatuo, and addressed to the Minister of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, President Akufo-Addo highlighted the university’s significance as a specialized institution for public degree awards, research, and professional training in local governance.
Formerly known as the Akomadan Campus of the Institute of Local Government Studies, the university’s transformation into an autonomous, fully-fledged institution underscores its strategic importance for enhancing local governance across Ghana.
