The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) is currently facing a controversy regarding the absence of Favour Ofili’s name from the women’s 100m event at the Paris Olympics.

Ofili, who won the national title in the 100m, was shocked to discover she was barred from competing in not only the 100m but also the 200m and the 4x100m relay due to registration issues.
On July 30, Ofili expressed her frustration, stating that despite qualifying and preparing for four years, her name was not registered for the 100m event by the Nigerian Olympic Committee and the AFN.
She voiced her disappointment, questioning why her hard work had seemingly gone to waste.

In response, Samuel Onikeku, the Technical Director of the AFN, clarified that the federation had indeed registered Ofili for the 100m, 200m, and the 4x100m relay.
He expressed surprise at the situation, stating they were unsure how her name was omitted from the 100m event.
A check on the entry list by LIB reveals that Ofili will still be competing in the 200m and the 4x100m relay. Ofili had qualified for the 100m at the AFN National Trials in Benin City in June, setting a new personal best of 11.06 seconds and claiming her first national title.
The athletics events at the Paris Olympics are set to begin on Thursday with the men’s 20m race walk.
