Ado Campeol was born in 1928. Campeol was an Italian restaurateur who was recognized as “the father of tiramisu”. Campeol owned a popular restaurant in Treviso, Italy, named Le Beccherie.

Tiramisu was first prepared by his wife Alba Di Pillo and chef Roberto Linguanotto on December 24, 1969. Chef Roberto Linguanotto, the “co-invertor” of the dish described it as a result of an accident while making vanilla ice cream.

The dish is made up of coffee-soaked biscuits and mascarpone. It was added to their menu in 1972 but never patented by the family. Afterward, it has become a staple of Italian cuisine and the recipe has been adapted by a lot of chefs all over the world.

Campeol died on 30 October 2021 at the age of 93.
