Adam Peaty has tested positive for Covid-19 just one day after securing a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke at the Paris Olympics.

Peaty, 29, narrowly missed out on a third consecutive gold medal by 0.02 seconds on Sunday, July 28 2024. He had reported feeling slightly unwell with a sore throat before the race.
Team GB confirmed that Peaty’s condition worsened overnight, leading to his positive Covid test.
Despite this, there are no strict Covid-19 protocols at the Paris Games that would prevent him from competing. Organisers treat Covid-19 as a general illness, and Team GB has implemented basic precautions such as hand hygiene and social distancing.
Peaty was expected to compete in the British relay teams later in the Olympics and is hopeful to return to action as soon as Friday, August 2 2024.
Team GB stated that they are managing the situation with appropriate measures to keep the team healthy.

Peaty expressed his commitment to a quick recovery, stating: “I’ll now be focusing on a fast, full recovery to give my best in the team relays later in the week. I’ve had so many messages and I’ll get back to you all, thank you for your support as it has truly been an unforgettable journey.”
Team GB coaches will decide on Peaty’s participation based on his recovery and performance. If fit, Peaty could still play a crucial role in the relays, although there are other breaststrokers available as alternatives.
Peaty aimed to become only the second swimmer after Michael Phelps to win the same Olympic swimming event three times in a row.
