Veteran actor Ian McKellen has been hospitalized after a dramatic fall from the stage during a performance of “Player Kings” at the Noel Coward Theatre in London.

McKellen, 85, was portraying John Falstaff in Robert Icke’s adaptation of Henry IV, parts one and two when the incident occurred during a fight scene. The actor, widely celebrated for his roles including Gandalf in the “Lord of the Rings” films, cried out in pain following the fall, which startled theatregoers and halted the performance abruptly.

A spokesperson for the play’s producers assured the public that McKellen is expected to recover fully and swiftly. “Ian McKellen was injured during tonight’s performance of ‘Player Kings.’ He will be making a full recovery,” said Freya Cowdry, the spokesperson, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support from the audience and the public.
Due to McKellen’s accident, the production has opted to cancel the scheduled performance on Tuesday, June 18, to allow the esteemed actor time to recuperate. Attendees affected by the cancellation will be contacted promptly regarding refunds and rescheduling options.
