In a statement shared with CNN on Tuesday, July 23, Clooney praised Biden’s leadership and decision to step aside, saying he is “saving democracy once again.”
The Oscar-winning star expressed excitement about supporting Harris in her historic campaign, stating, “We’re all so excited to do whatever we can to support Vice President Harris in her historic quest.”

Clooney’s endorsement comes after he penned a controversial op-ed in the New York Times earlier this month, calling for a new Democratic nominee.
In the article, he criticized Biden, pointing to moments like the presidential debate and the George Stephanopoulos interview as signs that the president was not the same politician he once was.

The letter sparked significant backlash from Biden supporters, but Clooney was not alone in his sentiment. Other Democrats echoed his call for change, and within weeks, President Biden ended his reelection bid and endorsed Vice President Harris as his successor.
Harris has since secured enough support from Democratic delegates to become the party’s official nominee, according to an Associated Press survey.
She has also racked up a record $81 million in grassroots donations in the first 24 hours following Biden’s withdrawal.
Clooney’s endorsement is part of a growing trend of support for Harris, with other notable figures like singer Demi Lovato and actress Jamie Lee Curtis expressing their backing for the vice president.
