In a tweet, Abeiku stated that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president, is not just a founder of Ghana but also a significant founding father of the African continent.
The controversy began after President Akufo-Addo’s comments during the Founder’s Day address on April 3. The President suggested that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, while crucial to Ghana’s independence, should not be seen as the sole founder.
He emphasized that the struggle for Ghana’s freedom was a collective effort involving many patriotic individuals across generations.

In his address, President Akufo-Addo stressed that while Nkrumah’s role is important, it is essential to recognize the contributions of other heroes who played a part in the nation’s liberation.
Reacting to this, Abeiku Santana shared a video of Nkrumah and the “big five” at Independence Square on his X account, asserting that Dr. Nkrumah is a foundational figure not only for Ghana but for Africa as a whole.
The President’s remarks have sparked widespread discussion, with prominent figures like veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt, historian Anokye, and NDC flagbearer John Mahama voicing disagreement with the President’s view.
