According to the US Census Bureau, Maryland is currently the wealthiest state in the US, with a household income of $81,868.

 

The economy of the state receives significant backing from the technology, aerospace, and defense industries. As of 2018, Maryland had the lowest poverty rate of 9% in the United State.

It is reported that a high percentage of Marylands workers are gainfully employed by the public administrative sector of Washington DC. This has added a significant boost to the state’s average income. Another sector that employs Maryland’s educated populace is Security with the National Security Agency being one of the top places to work in Maryland.

Maryland is one of the original 13 states of the US. According to history, the state was named in honor of the wife of King Charles I, Henrietta Maria.

The state covers an area of 12,406 square miles (32,131 square km) with an estimated population of 6,045,680 as of 2019.
