Colombian serial killer Luis Garavito passed away from an undisclosed cause on October 12, 2023, in a hospital in Valledupar, at the age of 66.

Luis Garavito was a Colombian serial killer whose horrific crimes shook the nation and the world.
In the chilling chronicles of crime, Garavito’s name stands out as one of the most sinister figures in modern history. A serial killer, sex offender, pedophile, and necrophile, he became infamous for the heinous acts he committed.
In October 1999, Garavito confessed to a gruesome catalogue of offenses that included the rape, torture, mutilation, and murder of 147 minors, with a majority of his victims being young men and boys from western Colombia.

Garavito’s reign of terror began in the autumn of 1980 when he initiated a series of torture-rapes on minors aged 6 to 16. It is estimated that he raped and tortured a minimum of 200 minors during this period.

However, the darkest chapter in his life unfolded between October 4, 1992, and April 21, 1999, when he committed the rape, torture, mutilation, and murder of an additional 189 minors in Colombia. The horror didn’t stop at Colombia’s borders; Garavito was also linked to four more murders in Ecuador during the summer of 1998.
The nightmare that Garavito inflicted on countless innocent lives took a turn when he was apprehended on April 22, 1999, for the attempted rape of 12-year-old John Iván Sabogal.
For several months, he remained under suspicion until the shocking confession that came on October 28, 1999.
The Colombian justice system acted swiftly, and the court ruled that Garavito should serve sentences totaling 1,853 years and 9 days in jail.
Garavito’s name remained synonymous with horror until his demise on October 12, 2023, at the age of 66.
