He had initiated a series of torture-rapes on minors aged 6 to 16. It’s estimated that he inflicted unimaginable suffering on at least 200 young lives during this period.

The darkest chapter in his life unfolded between October 4, 1992, and April 21, 1999, as he committed the rape, torture, mutilation, and murder of an additional 189 minors in Colombia.
Shockingly, his horrors extended beyond Colombia’s borders, with links to four more murders in Ecuador during the summer of 1998.
The nightmare that Garavito imposed on countless innocent lives took a turn when he was apprehended in April 1999 for the attempted rape of a 12-year-old child.
Months of suspicion culminated in his shocking confession in October 1999. The Colombian justice system acted swiftly, ruling that he should serve sentences totaling 1,853 years and 9 days in jail. Luis Garavito’s name became synonymous with horror.
Garavito died on 12 October 2023, in a hospital in Valledupar, at the age of 66.
