Ketel Jr.’s beloved mother, Elpidia Valdez, lost her life in a heart-wrenching accident in the Dominican Republic when the moped she was riding was hit by a vehicle.

The accident occurred shortly after a heart-to-heart conversation between mother and son, just before the Diamondbacks’ flight from St. Louis to Chicago.

In his unyielding love and remembrance, Ketel Jr. often honors his mother through posts on social media, ensuring her memory stays alive.

He even wears her image as a tattoo on his left arm, a constant reminder of the bond that endures. Though he may appear strong in public, his father, Ketel Sr., knows that the pain still lingers in the depths of his son’s heart.

“I’m very proud of him and how he has handled everything,” Ketel Sr. revealed. “He’s been good. He’s been calm. I know he’s going to go out and have a good game for his mother.”
